Yamamoto-tei - Inside the house

Yamamoto-tei was built in early 1900 as a house of the president of camera parts manufacturer.
The house was moved and restored after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923.

The architecture is a combination of traditional Japanese style and Modern Western style.

Garden is also beautiful especially when you see it from the room sitting on Tatami mat.

There's a cafe in here so that you can enjoy Japanese tea seeing the garden.

Shibamata Toy Museum

Toy Museum is on the second floor of a Mom and pop candy store.
This store sells cheap sweats, cheap toys and nostalgic stuff.

This store is congested with kids and young people.
Old generations may recall their childhood with these kind of stuff.

After you purchase a museum ticket at the store, you need to walk up the stairs outside to get into the museum on the second floor.

There's a strange atmosphere room with many junks like old toys, games, magazines etc.
There're few visitors here, although they have a lot of visitors in the candy store downstairs.

Yagiri Ferry

Tora-san Museum and Yamada Yoji Museum are in Shibamata Park.
This park is close to Edogawa River.

Yagiri Ferry is a small rowing boat to across the river.
This was written in novels and songs.
This became famous for the song "Yagiri no watashi".

The other side of the river is Chiba Prefecture.

Yamada Yoji Museum

Yoji Yamada is the director of Tora-san movie series.
There's an object with film containers and film projector in the center of the room.

He made many other films besides Tora-san and "Family" is a consistent theme through most of his works. He also made some Samurai movies.

Tora-san Museum

Tora-san is one of the most popular characters in Japanese movie series.
He is a kind-hearted tramp who's easy to fall in love with the heroines.

His home town is Shibamata which is a temple town located in the north east Tokyo.

This museum has the actual set used in filming.

Tora-san himself is seen assembling the letters of the museum's name at the entrance.

Exhibitions include miniature set of old town and old man-powered railway etc.

Suikeien Garden

Suikeien Garden is surrounded by Daikyakuden, Taishakudo Hall and cloister.
This garden was designed by famous gardener, Rakuzan Nagai.

This garden is neat and quiet.
It's unique to see the garden from 360 degree angle.

Daikyakuden

Daikyakuden means big guest hall.
This hall is behind of the main hall of Taishakuten Temple.

This building was built in 1929 and made of 100% Japanese cypress.
One cypress lumber was selected out of hundreds of lumbers.

A wide hall way is facing to Suikeien garden and it has glass sliding doors so that people can look at the garden from inside of the house.
