Yoshiwara is known as public whorehouses quarter in Edo era.
It was surrounded by high walls and only one entrance gate was watched by guards.
Prostitutes were not allowed to go out of this quarter.
They were well educated to be master of many different kind of arts like dancing, singing, playing instruments, calligraphy, teas, poems, classic books and so on.
Top class of them were called Oiran and need huge money to play with them.
Oiran parades from her home house to the playing house when she was called.
Now we can see this parade in Yoshiwara once a year on the second Saturday in April if it's not raining.
