Nanzenji Temple

Nanzenji Temple was Zen temple established in 1291.
Huge Sammon Gate is famous for the episode that Goemon Ishikawa, a head of thiefs in 16th century went up to the top of the gate and said "Superb view!".

There's a waterway made of brick.
It's built in late 19th century to send water from Biwako Lake to Kyoto.

It's used for hydraulic power for the plants, irrigation and fire prevention.
