Tsukuda Tendai Jizoson

Tsukuda Tendai Jizoson is located in a narrow narrow narrow alley.
You may hesitate to get into the alley if there's no sign of Tsukuda Tendai Jizoson.

In the middle of the alley, there's a basin for water to purify before entering.
It's a surprise to find a big ginkgo tree which stands through the building.

An image of Jizo is on a stone panel. It's unique to be drawn on the stone. Usually Jizo has a human shape body of stone.

Ishikawajima Park

Ishikawajima Park is connected to Tsukuda Park.
This place used to be a small island but it's a tip of the peninsula now.

It's a bend in Sumida River and Harumi canal.
Impressive suspension bridge is Chuo Oohashi Bridge.

You can see Tokyo Skytree on the other side of Eitai Bridge.
There used to be a dockyard here.

Tsukuda Park

Tsukuda Park is on river side close to Sumiyoshi Shrine.
There's an old lighthouse.　It's a nice view from the top of the base of the lighthouse.

There're flowers and benches along Sumida River.
You can enjoy cherry blossoms in Spring and fireworks in Summer here.

Sumiyoshi Shrine

Sumiyoshi Shrine is a shrine in Tsukudajima.
In late 16th century, when Ieyasu Tokugawa, the founder of Tokugawa Shogunate government went to Original Sumiyoshi Shrine in Osaka, fishermen in Tsukuda village there helped him to provide foods and vessels etc.

They'd kept helping Ieyasu after that.
When Ieyasu moved to Edo (Current Tokyo), a shrine priest and 33 fishermen followed him.

In mid 17th century, they named this place Tsukudajima after their home village and opened new Sumiyoshi Shrine.

Tsukuda Kobashi

Tsukuda Kobashi is a small red bridge in Tsukudajima.
Actually "Kobashi" means small bridge.

This bridge is over an old canal.
It's a good contrast of old style bridge and high rise buildings.

There's Tsukuda Oohashi (large bridge) near here over Sumidagawa River.

Tsukudajima

Tsukudajima was the island until Edo era.
Reclaimed land had been expanded from Tsukishima, Kachidoki and Harumi.

Since it's connected to Tsukiji area by bridges, you may not feel it was the island.
We don't have old houses or stores on reclaimed land but we still have old buildings in Tsukudajima.

Tsukudajima is famous for Tsukudani or seafood boiled in soy sauce.
There're several old stores since mid 1800.

There's a monument of ferryboat port because ferryboat was the only transportation to come here until bridges are built.

Tsukishima

Tsukishima was born as reclaimed land in the late 19th century.

Now Tsukishima is famous for Monjayaki.

You are supposed to cook Monjayaki on a steel plate at each table.

It has many variety of ingredients in flour with water.

A street is called Monja street because there're more than 70 Monjayaki restaurants around here.
