Free Shuttle Bus at Tokyo Station

Tokyo Station has free shuttle buses on both sides, Marunouchi side (Imperial Palace side) and Yaesu side (Nihombashi side).

Marunouchi Shuttle is good one to visit Hibiya park and East side of the Imperial Palace.

Metro Link Nihombashi is good one to visit museums and department stores in Nihombashi District through Kyobashi District.

They run every 15 minutes from 10:00 am through 8:00 pm every day.

Nakagawa Funabansho Museum

Funabansho means guard house for vessels.
It's located at the junction of Nakagawa River and Onagigawa River.

It checked goods on vessels especially women and armors at night.

Exhibitions include replica of the guard house, its history and water traffic from Edo era through Showa era.

The break room is facing to the river.

Fumiko Hayashi Memorial Museum

Fumiko Hayashi is a female novelist who lived here from 1941 through 1951 till her death.

She spent a lot of time to design this house.
Her priority is living room, bath room and kitchen.

There're various kinds of plants in the garden so that she can enjoy flowers in any seasons. There's another garden on the hill on the other side of the house.

Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum - Hachiroemon Mitsui Residense

Hachiroemon Mitsui Residence was built in 1952 in old Japanese style.
Three story warehouse connected to the house was built in 1874.

The original dining room and guest room were built in Kyoto in 1874 and transferred to Tokyo after World War II.

Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum - West Zone

In the west zone, there're residences in uptown in Tokyo and old farmer houses.
Houses in uptown were modern style when they were built in Meiji era through Showa era.

Farmer houses were mainly built in Edo era.

A classic bus is exhibited, too.

Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum - Kodakarayu

Kodakarayu is a public bath built in 1929.
The roof is like a temple.

This is typical public bath style in Tokyo.
The wall on bath tub is supposed to have a picture of mount Fuji.

In the east zone, there're many old stores, inn and public bath.
You can see the life in down town of old Tokyo.

They have items sold in the stores.
There's a restaurant on the second floor of old warehouse.

A street car is exhibited, too.

Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum - Korekiyo Takahashi Residence

This is the residence of Korekiyo Takahashi who was the prime minister but killed by military coup in 1936. He was killed in the bed room on the second floor of this house.

A part of the garden which was in Akasaka is restored.

Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum - Center Zone

In the center zone, there're architecture from Edo era through Showa eara.
A Shrine was built in 1652 (Edo era).
Korekiyo Takahashi (Prime Minister who's assassinated in 1936) Residence was built in 1902 (Meiji era).

Others are built in Taisho era (1912-1926).
Visitor Center itself was built in Imperial Palace to cerebrate imperial family's 2600 anniversary in 1940.
