Basho Museum

Basho Matsuo is the most famous Haiku poet in Edo era.
Haiku is the shortest poem with 5-7-5 syllables.

He established his artistic style in Haiku poem.
He had travels around in Japan with his disciple and made Haiku poems at locations he visited.

He was born in Iga Ueno, the place of origin of Ninja and moved to Edo (Tokyo).
This small museum is in the area where he lived and described in his poem.

200 yen

9:30-17:00

Closed on the 2nd and 4th Mondays
(Open if it's holiday and following day is closed)

Year end and New Year holidays

This museum has a small garden and you can go through to the river side from the back gate.
