Ueno Zoological Gardens - West Garden

West Garden is connected by a bridge over the road from East Garden.
Monorail is available, too.

West Garden is facing to Shinobazu Pond.

It has the Children's Zoo, kangaroos, wolves, zebras, hippopotamuses, rhinoceroses, giraffes and flamingos.

Ueno Zoological Gardens - East Garden

You'll get into East Garden after you come through main gate of Ueno Zoo.
You can see Giant Pandas near the entrance.

Five Story Pagoda is located in East Garden, too.

East Garden has birds, elephants, bears, lions, tigers, gorillas, monkeys, polar bears, seals and sea lions.

Ueno Zoological Gardens - Five Story Pagoda

Ueno Zoological Gardens have Five Story Pagoda of Kan-eiji Temple.
All of the Ueno Park including Shinobazu Pond was a part of Kan-eiji Temple.

There's no wonder why Five Story Pagoda stands in this area but I don't understand why it's in the wall of Ueno Zoo.

Ueno Zoo is the oldest zoo in Japan which was established in 1882.
It consists of East Garden and West Garden.
There's a monorail between these two gardens.

Rikugien Gardens

This place was the house of Yoshiyasu Yanagisawa who was a right hand man of the fifth Shogun Tsunayoshi Tokugawa in early 18 century (Edo era).

In Meiji era, it's owned by Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of Mitsubishi industrial group.
Mr. Iwasaki had many gardens in Tokyo.

This is a typical Japanese garden with a pond in center.
There're symbolic 88 landscapes after old Japanese poems.
